WHAT IS WBC?
It all begins with an idea. An idea we couldn’t stop thinking about. Watch the video and get inspired.
Women’s Badminton Collective (WBC) is a growing worldwide community between players, coaches and fans.
We want to change the sport and give more opportunities for top players and the next generation.
The collective will support, empower and addresses the lack of opportunities and exposure for women and girls in badminton.
We want to create more visible stages to compete, shine, develop, to be inspired and be a role model.
We want to arrange events for teams and individually tournaments, training camps in collaboration with players, exclusive webinars and workshops.
We want to educated players, coaches, fans and parents within our sport and put focus on issues, find solutions and break taboos.
CHANGE THE GAME.
Women’s sport, from grassroots to elite levels, is consistently and systematically underfunded, inhibited, and seen as second best.
Lack of funding at grassroots leads to less teenagers engaging in sport which means less high performance athletes. This means less role models for young girls to look up to and so the cycle repeats infinitely.
In the WBC founders’ own experience we can state that we are getting paid less than our male competitors, making us have to think about more than just developing our sport. Making sure that we can pay the next rent or tournament is something we deal with and comes together with increased stress rates. This also includes getting paid less at team matches and in sponsor contracts then male players for the same effort.
WBC will give current Elite and talented upcoming players a stage to shine in the spotlight. Elite rolemodels will provide inspiration for the next generation of girls. A tangible reality for what is possible for them.
They will be given a platform to perform, challenge themselves and grow, educated, feel safe to reach out if they need help and seek inspiration. But that is just the beginning.
The vision of WBC is to provide tournaments, training camps and workshops for players to come together and learn from each other. This will create the opportunity for younger players to be inspired by their role models.
We want to help players build a strong brand and identity to be more valuable for marketing and contract opportunities during their career and afterwards.
